Karachi (HRNW):<\/strong> The Sindh High Court<\/strong> heard a contempt of court petition<\/strong> alleging non-compliance with its previous orders regarding the removal of encroachments in Shah Faisal Colony<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The petition names the Mayor of Karachi<\/strong>, the Municipal Commissioner of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)<\/strong>, and the Director of Anti-Encroachment<\/strong>, alleging failure to implement the court’s directives.<\/p>\n

During the hearing, the court summoned the Municipal Commissioner, KMC<\/strong>, and the Director of Anti-Encroachment<\/strong> to appear in person<\/strong> and adjourned further proceedings until September 7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Usman Farooq<\/strong>, informed the court that in 2016<\/strong>, the Sindh High Court had ordered the removal of encroachments from Shah Faisal Colony. He stated that KMC’s counsel had assured the court that a regular monitoring mechanism would be established to prevent the re-emergence of illegal structures.<\/p>\n

According to the petitioner, no effective monitoring system was put in place, allowing previously removed encroachments to return.<\/p>\n

The petition further argues that the Mayor of Karachi<\/strong>, as head of the KMC, and the Municipal Commissioner<\/strong>, as its chief administrative officer, are responsible for ensuring compliance with the court’s orders. It requests contempt proceedings against the officials for the alleged non-compliance.<\/p>\n
