{"id":23990,"date":"2026-08-03T14:29:51","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T14:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hrnww.com\/?p=23990"},"modified":"2026-08-03T14:29:51","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T14:29:51","slug":"all-pakistan-goods-transport-alliance-announces-nationwide-indefinite-strike-from-august-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hrnww.com\/?p=23990","title":{"rendered":"All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Announces Nationwide Indefinite Strike from August 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Karachi (HRNW):<\/strong> The <strong>All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance (APGTA)<\/strong> has announced a nationwide indefinite strike beginning <strong>Saturday, August 8<\/strong>, if its demands are not accepted by the federal and provincial governments.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a press conference at the <strong>Karachi Press Club<\/strong>, APGTA President <strong>Malik Shehzad Awan<\/strong> called for the resignation of <strong>Federal Minister for Petroleum Pervez Ali Malik<\/strong> and said that transport associations from across Pakistan had unanimously agreed to suspend operations until their demands are addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Awan stated that the Alliance has submitted a <strong>Charter of Demands<\/strong> to the federal and provincial governments, urging immediate action on issues affecting the country&#8217;s transport sector.<\/p>\n<p>The key demands include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Replacing the <strong>daily fuel price adjustment mechanism<\/strong> with a <strong>monthly pricing system<\/strong> and reversing recent increases in diesel and petrol prices.<\/li>\n<li>Rolling back the recent <strong>toll tax increase<\/strong> and restoring the rates applicable as of <strong>June 30, 2024<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing the <strong>7% withholding tax<\/strong> on the goods transport sector to <strong>2%<\/strong>, in line with the rate applied to oil tankers.<\/li>\n<li>Strict enforcement of axle-load regulations, eliminating overloading at the source, and reviewing the permissible weight limit for <strong>10-wheeler trucks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Revoking <strong>Customs SRO 1619\/2024<\/strong>, which the Alliance claims is being used to harass transporters and facilitate corruption.<\/li>\n<li>Implementing commitments made by the federal, Punjab, and Sindh governments following the nationwide transport strike held in December.<\/li>\n<li>Issuing <strong>HTV driving licences<\/strong> to drivers after conducting the required competency tests.<\/li>\n<li>Providing designated parking facilities for trucks, trailers, car carriers, and mini Mazda vehicles near <strong>Karachi Port<\/strong> and <strong>Port Qasim<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Improving the law and order situation in <strong>Balochistan<\/strong> to prevent attacks and arson targeting transport vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Repealing the law requiring the phase-out of <strong>20-year-old freight vehicles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Withdrawing the law requiring drivers to pay <strong>Rs. 9.7 million<\/strong> in compensation (Diyat) in the event of fatal road accidents.<\/li>\n<li>Ending what the Alliance described as <strong>unjust charges<\/strong> imposed under mandatory third-party insurance during vehicle registration and renewal in Sindh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Alliance warned that if the authorities fail to address these demands, freight transport operations across the country will be suspended indefinitely from <strong>August 8<\/strong>, potentially affecting the movement of goods nationwide.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\ud83e\udd1d Support HRNW<\/h3>\n<p>Support independent human rights journalism, public awareness, and responsible reporting by contributing to HRNW:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrnww.com\/?page_id=1083\">https:\/\/www.hrnww.com\/?page_id=1083<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\u26a0\ufe0f Important Note (Disclaimer)<\/h3>\n<p>This report is based on statements made during a press conference by the <strong>All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance<\/strong>.
