Washington \/ Tehran (HRNW)-\u00a0The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed that it carried out large-scale airstrikes on dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military targets across Iran.<\/p>\n
According to US officials, the operation was launched in response to an alleged Iranian ballistic missile attack on US forces a day earlier.<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by CENTCOM, the strikes targeted military command centers, missile and drone installations, coastal defense facilities and naval capabilities in various parts of Iran.<\/p>\n
The US military said the objective of the operation was to reduce threats faced by US forces in the region, Gulf allies and international commercial shipping.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Iranian media reported that US forces also carried out strikes in several areas of southern Iran on Thursday morning. According to Iranian news agencies, missile attacks were reported around Qeshm Island and the city of Abadan.<\/p>\n
Ahmad Nafisi, Deputy Governor of Hormozgan Province, was quoted as saying that the US military targeted a location near Qeshm Island at around 4 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Iran\u2019s Fars News Agency, citing an official in Khuzestan Province, claimed that US missile strikes also occurred around the city of Abadan.<\/p>\n
Iran has not yet released full details regarding possible casualties or financial losses from the attacks, while US officials have also not provided additional information about the outcome of the operation.<\/p>\n
According to defense analysts, the latest airstrikes indicate that military tensions between the United States and Iran are escalating once again, with potential implications for the Gulf region, global energy markets and international security.<\/p>\n
