Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Munawar Chowrangi Underpass, which has now been opened for public traffic. The inauguration ceremony was attended by elected representatives, senior government officials, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) officers, engineers, and a large number of citizens.<\/p>\n
The 500-meter-long underpass, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs2 billion, connects some of Karachi\u2019s busiest commercial and residential areas and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time. The Karachi Development Authority completed the project in 16 months, ahead of its originally planned completion period.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the project will be formally inaugurated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. He added that improving Karachi\u2019s infrastructure and resolving long-standing traffic issues remain among the Sindh government\u2019s top priorities, with several development projects currently underway across the city.<\/p>\n
The minister said funds have been allocated for the rehabilitation and construction of major roads, while investigations are being conducted wherever concerns about construction quality have been raised. He also said the government is reclaiming sports grounds from illegal encroachments and emphasized that Karachi\u2019s development will continue despite political criticism.<\/p>\n
Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said the underpass was completed ahead of schedule due to effective planning, continuous monitoring, and the dedication of the project teams. He noted that work is progressing rapidly on roads, flyovers, underpasses, parks, sports facilities, and other civic projects across Karachi, adding that citizens will witness further improvements over the coming year.<\/p>\n
He also revealed that a proposed flyover at Disco Bakery Chowrangi was delayed following a request from the relevant town chairman. At the conclusion of the ceremony, citizens welcomed the opening of the underpass, expressing hope that it would ease daily traffic congestion and provide faster, safer, and more convenient travel between key commercial and residential areas of the city.<\/p>\n
