KARACHI: ( HRNW) Senior leader of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) Karachi Division, Advocate Hasnain Ali Chauhan, has said that August 5, 2026, will mark three years since the imprisonment of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan, describing the incarceration as “unjust” and a symbol of what he termed attacks on the Constitution, the rule of law, democracy and the public’s right to vote.<\/p>\n
In a press release issued on Friday, Advocate Hasnain Ali Chauhan said that Imran Khan had endured three years in prison not for personal interests but for the rights of the people, “true freedom”, constitutional supremacy and the rule of law. He maintained that the former premier had remained steadfast in his principles despite imprisonment, adding that “ideas cannot be imprisoned, nor can the people’s support for Imran Khan be erased.”<\/p>\n
The ILF leader said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had announced nationwide protests on August 5 and appealed to citizens to participate peacefully and raise their voices for what he described as their constitutional and democratic rights. He expressed the view that public participation would be instrumental in resisting injustice and political repression.<\/p>\n
Advocate Hasnain Ali Chauhan further alleged that the prevailing climate of oppression, fascism and political victimisation could not be allowed to continue. He said the legal fraternity would fulfil its constitutional responsibilities for the supremacy of the Constitution, judicial independence and the protection of fundamental human rights, adding that the Insaf Lawyers Forum would also play an active role in a lawyers’ movement.<\/p>\n
He said lawyers had historically acted as defenders of the Constitution, democracy and justice, resisting every attempt to undermine constitutional rule. According to him, the legal community would continue its struggle for the rule of law, the release of political prisoners and the restoration of democratic values.<\/p>\n
He said August 5 would be a significant day in Pakistan’s democratic history, expressing hope that citizens, lawyers and pro-democracy groups would unite to demand constitutional supremacy, an end to what he described as oppression, and the release of Imran Khan along with other political prisoners.<\/p>\n
