Manila (HRNW)-\u00a0US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the United States remains open to diplomatic talks with Iran to end the ongoing conflict, but will not allow Iran to establish control over the Strait of Hormuz or restrict international maritime traffic.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Manila, Rubio said, \u201cWe are still ready for diplomacy, but it is unacceptable for Iran to impose its conditions on an international waterway.\u201d<\/p>\n
He accused Iran of attempting to influence global commercial shipping by deciding which vessels can pass through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the United States and its partners would never accept such a situation.<\/p>\n
Rubio emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital trade route not only for the United States but for the global economy, and urged the international community to play a more active role in safeguarding freedom of navigation.<\/p>\n
Responding to a question, the US Secretary of State said Iran\u2019s economy and military had suffered significant damage during the recent conflict involving the United States and Israel. He also claimed that Tehran had spent vast resources over the past two decades on missiles, drone programs, and allied armed groups instead of national development.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the casualties among US troops, Rubio said that risks are inevitable in conflict zones, but the United States would continue taking all necessary measures to protect its interests and allies.<\/p>\n
He added that if Iran is genuinely interested in serious negotiations, Washington is prepared to engage in dialogue, but any attempt to threaten global shipping or international trade in the region would not be tolerated.<\/p>\n
Rubio\u2019s remarks come amid escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran, with the security of the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major concern for global energy and trade markets.<\/p>\n
