Islamabad (HRNW)<\/strong> \u2013 The Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned the hearing of a case related to human rights activist and lawyer Iman Mazari. During the proceedings, lawyers presented arguments regarding legal points, judicial proceedings, and the importance of ensuring access to justice.<\/p>\n

The Additional Attorney General informed the court that the relevant case is already scheduled for hearing before the Islamabad High Court on 24 July, which was one of the reasons the matter came before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

Iman Mazari\u2019s counsel informed the court that the case was fixed due to proceedings before the Supreme Court. Advocate Faisal Siddiqui argued that justice is expected from the Supreme Court and stated that the previous hearing had been adjourned due to the prosecution\u2019s position.<\/p>\n

During the hearing, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar observed that the Supreme Court cannot regulate the proceedings of the High Court while sitting in the Supreme Court. In response, Advocate Faisal Siddiqui stated that in several cases, the Supreme Court has issued directions to High Courts.<\/p>\n

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar clarified that there is a difference between regulating proceedings and issuing judicial directions. Advocate Faisal Siddiqui requested the court to hear his arguments on the legal points regarding the maintainability of the case, adding that if this was not possible, the matter could be adjourned for two weeks.<\/p>\n
