Peshawar (HRNW)-\u00a0The Accountability Court in Peshawar has rejected the bail application of Dr. Muhammad Islam, who was arrested in connection with the alleged government medicines scandal.<\/p>\n
The case was heard by Accountability Judge Muhammad Zafar. During the proceedings, the NAB prosecutor argued that Dr. Muhammad Islam, a cardiac technician, was allegedly involved in the medicines scandal through a private pharmaceutical company.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, the accused, in alleged collusion with other suspects, approved medicine supply orders worth Rs220.7 million in favor of a private company. NAB further claimed that Rs157 million from the amount was transferred to the accused\u2019s personal account.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor also alleged that the accused received medicines worth Rs40 million through the District Health Office (DHO) Lower Dir for supply to DHQ Hospital Timergara, but the medicines were allegedly never delivered and the funds were withdrawn.<\/p>\n
After hearing arguments from both sides, the Accountability Court rejected Dr. Muhammad Islam\u2019s bail application.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, former Director General Health Dr. Shaukat, who is also under arrest in the same case, filed a bail application. The court fixed July 27 for hearing the petition.<\/p>\n
In his application, the former DG Health stated that he has been accused of alleged embezzlement of more than Rs1 billion in medicine procurement. He argued that he was arrested solely on allegations and that NAB has not yet presented concrete evidence against him. He requested the court to grant him bail until the investigation is completed.<\/p>\n
