Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his statement regarding the country’s martyrs, saying that doing so would not diminish his stature but would instead enhance his respect.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Sharjeel Memon said the families of the martyrs had been deeply hurt by the statement. He added that withdrawing the remarks would demonstrate statesmanship and would increase Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s standing.<\/p>\n
The senior minister said that, due to the Sindh government’s agricultural policies, the province witnessed a bumper wheat crop this season. He stated that profiteers and hoarders had illegally stockpiled wheat after the harvest, but the government recovered 1.7 million tons through a crackdown. He added that the seized wheat would be purchased at the official government rate and stored in government warehouses. According to him, the action had already reduced the price of wheat flour by Rs13 per kilogram.<\/p>\n
Sharjeel Memon said India remained Pakistan’s principal adversary and praised the country’s armed forces for defending the nation. He said statements that undermine the sacrifices of martyrs benefit India’s narrative and noted that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks had been highlighted by Indian media.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces cannot be measured in financial terms, saying soldiers serve the country out of patriotism rather than for salaries. He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), despite political differences with past military governments, had never spoken against the armed forces.<\/p>\n
The senior minister appealed to Maulana Fazlur Rehman to reconsider his remarks in the interest of national unity. He also said Pakistan’s strength and security are the result of national sacrifices and called for all political, religious, business, and military stakeholders to remain united.<\/p>\n
Commenting on other issues, Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh government had repeatedly requested the federal government to ensure Sindh receives its constitutional share of water. He also stated that no province has the constitutional authority to prevent wheat from being transported to another province.<\/p>\n
He described the case of Priya Kumari as a serious matter and urged the federal government to address Sindh’s concerns regarding water shortages and infrastructure development. He also criticized the lack of federal investment in motorway projects in Sindh, saying Karachi remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.<\/p>\n
Sharjeel Memon further stated that IRSA must ensure fair water distribution among the provinces in accordance with the Constitution and existing agreements.<\/p>\n
