Following public proceedings, NEPRA issued its written decision approving the request.

The approved recovery is expected to begin from 1 August 2026. The amount will reportedly be collected through electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), including LESCO and other distribution utilities operating across the country.

Officials indicated that DISCOs will be permitted to recover the approved amount through electricity tariffs, which may lead to an increase in the per-unit electricity price and, consequently, higher monthly electricity bills for consumers.

According to the authorities, the recovered funds are intended to cover National Grid system-related expenses. However, the decision is expected to have a direct financial impact on residential, commercial, and industrial electricity users.

Human Rights Perspective

Human Rights News Worldwide (HRNW) emphasizes that affordable access to electricity, transparency in regulatory decision-making, and the protection of consumers’ economic rights are essential components of social and economic human rights.

Increases in electricity tariffs can disproportionately affect low-income households, small businesses, and vulnerable communities. Policymakers are encouraged to ensure transparency, public consultation, and appropriate safeguards for economically disadvantaged groups while maintaining the sustainability of the national energy sector.

Balancing financial viability with equitable access to essential public services remains a key element of good governance and human rights protection.

🤝 Support HRNW – The World’s No. 1 Human Rights News Agency

⚠️ Important Note (Disclaimer)

This report is based on publicly available information and regulatory developments.
