Beijing\/Brussels (HRNW)-\u00a0China and the European Union have emphasized the need to ensure free, safe, and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that reducing regional tensions and restoring normal shipping is in the interest of the global community.<\/p>\n
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said in Beijing that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital international shipping route and that restoring secure maritime transportation is in the interests of all countries. He urged all parties to handle the situation responsibly and cautiously to avoid disruptions to global trade and energy supplies.<\/p>\n
His remarks came after Iran\u2019s ambassador to China reportedly stated that new fees would be imposed on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, while China and other friendly countries would receive special concessions.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in Brussels, European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas said that EU foreign ministers would soon meet with representatives of Gulf countries to discuss regional security and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Kallas stated that the current interim understanding between Iran and the United States does not appear to be producing the desired results, adding that the European Union will continue to advocate for the restoration of normal conditions in the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n
She also emphasized that freedom of international navigation must be respected at all times and opposed the imposition of tolls or additional charges on vessels using the Strait.<\/p>\n
Experts note that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global crude oil and natural gas exports. Any disruption or additional restrictions on transit through the Strait could have far-reaching consequences for global energy markets, international trade, and the world economy.<\/p>\n
