KARACHI (HRNW):<\/strong> Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi Division spokesperson Fauzia Siddiqui has strongly criticised the recent Rs13 per litre increase in petroleum prices, describing it as an anti-people decision and alleging that the government is placing an ever-growing financial burden on citizens despite a downward trend in global oil prices.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Saturday, Fauzia Siddiqui said that while international oil prices were declining, the government continued to impose what she termed \u201ca new inflation bomb\u201d on the public every week. She alleged that instead of passing on the benefit of lower global prices to consumers, the government had chosen to increase fuel prices.<\/p>\n

She argued that the impact of higher petroleum prices extends far beyond motorists, saying that transport costs directly affect the prices of flour, vegetables, milk, medicines and other essential commodities, triggering another wave of inflation. According to her, household incomes have remained stagnant while the cost of living continues to rise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government is not committed to providing relief to the people; rather, it appears determined to make their lives more difficult through rising inflation,\u201d Siddiqui said.<\/p>\n

She further alleged that although the government frequently promises public relief, its decisions consistently place additional financial pressure on ordinary citizens. Instead of allowing people to benefit from lower international oil prices, she claimed, the government had turned to consumers\u2019 pockets as the easiest way to generate revenue.<\/p>\n

Questioning the government’s economic policies, Fauzia Siddiqui said fuel prices, electricity tariffs and the cost of essential goods were increasing almost every week, making it increasingly difficult for people to manage their daily expenses.<\/p>\n

She also criticised what she described as the government’s economic model, alleging that it required citizens to bear the burden of economic hardship while those in power continued to enjoy privileges. She maintained that reducing unnecessary government expenditure should take precedence over raising fuel prices.<\/p>\n

The PTI Karachi spokesperson called on the government to immediately withdraw the latest increase in petroleum prices and ensure that the full benefit of lower global oil prices is passed on to consumers without delay.<\/p>\n

She reaffirmed PTI Karachi Division’s commitment to continue advocating for the protection of citizens’ rights, opposing inflation and pursuing what she described as the defence of public interests.<\/p>\n
