Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0The Sindh government has decided to introduce exclusive bus routes under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and launch a new People\u2019s Bus Service route between Larkana and Qambar to improve public transportation across the province.<\/p>\n
The decisions were made during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, CEO Trans Karachi Zubair Channa, and other senior officials.<\/p>\n
Participants reviewed the progress and future strategy of ongoing and proposed public transport projects, including the operations of double-decker buses, EV taxis, EV buses, the People\u2019s Bus Service, Green Line BRT, and Orange Line BRT.<\/p>\n
Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government plans to introduce dedicated bus routes under the PPP model, allowing private companies and investors to operate modern air-conditioned electric (EV) buses on selected routes through transparent auction or other competitive procedures. He said the initiative aims to improve public transport while encouraging private sector investment.<\/p>\n
The senior minister also directed officials to complete all administrative and operational arrangements for the early launch of the Larkana\u2013Qambar People\u2019s Bus Service, stating that the new route would improve connectivity, facilitate commuters, and promote commercial activity between the two districts.<\/p>\n
Officials informed the meeting that consultations with stakeholders regarding the EV Taxi Project are progressing rapidly. Sharjeel Inam Memon said an environmentally friendly EV taxi service would soon be launched in Karachi, providing citizens with modern and comfortable transport while helping reduce environmental pollution.<\/p>\n
The minister further directed authorities to finalize route planning and operational arrangements for additional double-decker buses expected to arrive in Karachi, so that the new fleet can begin serving passengers without delay.<\/p>\n
According to the meeting, daily ridership on the Green Line BRT has increased from 50,000 to 81,000, while the Orange Line BRT has grown from 1,800 to 9,800 daily passengers, reflecting increasing public confidence in the transport system.<\/p>\n
Sharjeel Inam Memon also praised the women-only Pink Bus Service operating on the Green Line BRT, saying it has received a positive response, particularly from women commuters.<\/p>\n
Taking notice of the reported misuse of Pink Scooties, the minister directed authorities to prevent men from using the vehicles and ordered legal action against violators. He also instructed officials to seize Pink Scooties being used unlawfully and take action against anyone changing their color or altering their appearance.<\/p>\n
Concluding the meeting, the senior minister reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to completing all ongoing and planned transport projects on time to provide citizens with modern, safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient public transport services.<\/p>\n
