He emphasized that we have also failed to ensure women’s protection, particularly in terms of “workplace protection,” where performance has been deeply disappointing.

Youtube – Human Rights Media Network

He noted that although legislation against harassment exists and the office of the Women Ombudsperson is active—established to safeguard women against harassment — unfortunately, we remain unable to provide women with adequate protection, even to the extent of registering harassment cases. He mentioned that even when cases are reported, the law has so far failed to fully protect countless individuals.

He further stressed that educational institutions must provide greater freedom to every individual, whether male or female. In particular, women need to be empowered and strengthened so they can play their full role in society and institutions. He pointed out that this responsibility becomes even more challenging for women, as they simultaneously manage household, family, and professional duties.

He informed the audience that as KU VC, he tried his best to provide equal opportunities for both women and men. He emphasized that it is very close to his heart that everyone should be given equal opportunities, and that women must be accorded their rightful place in decision-making so they can contribute with dignity at every level.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi underscored that opportunities should never be determined on the basis of gender, but rather on an individual’s ability, determination, and commitment.

He stated that we need to personally view the role of women in a broader perspective. He emphasized that if one studies different nations, the true reason behind their progress and success is equality.

The KU’s Dean of Faculty of Science Professor Dr Bilqees Gul remarked that today’s theme is dedicated to our confident and empowered women who are achieving remarkable success in fields such as science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. She said that these are women who move forward with strength, clarity, and self-awareness while maintaining balance in their lives.

She highlighted that whenever a new invention, discovery, or advancement emerges in science, technology, arts, or mathematics worldwide, there is always a real human story behind it—a story of perseverance, courage, and unwavering belief in one’s purpose. For many women, this journey is extremely challenging, shaped by societal expectations and, at times, professional obstacles.

Professor Dr Bilquees Gul said that a strong and successful woman not only maintains balance in her life—including work, family, and personal well-being—but also goes beyond her limits to achieve accomplishments that exceed expectations. She faces life’s challenges with courage, confidence, and a deep understanding of herself, her abilities, her emotions, and her goals.

She added that when women advance, science progresses; when women rise, societies rise. And when women lead with balance and self-awareness, they redefine the true meaning of development.”

Addressing young women, Dr Gul said that you can achieve far more than you ever imagine. Bring balance to your aspirations and self-awareness to your personality. Connect your journey with honesty and believe that true strength lies not in perfection, but in consistency and perseverance.

She stressed that the future of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is not only promising but also profoundly transformative.

Earlier, in a panel discussion, President OWSD Pakistan National Chapter Professor Bina Siddiqui, Professor Nadia Ayub, Professor Ahsana Dar Farooq, Professor Yasira Naeem Pasha, Professor Dr Bilquees Gul, Professor Dr Anila Amber Malik, and Professor Dr Saima Akhter shared their experiences regarding women’s mental empowerment in a changing world.

The ceremony was also addressed by Professor Dr Huma Baqai, Professor Dr. Iqbal Afridi, Dr Julie Sinclair and other distinguished speakers.

<g transform="translate(0,332) scale(0.1,-0.1)" fill="" stroke="none"></g>

Karachi (HRNW)– Dr A.
