Karachi (HRNW):<\/strong> Sajjad Ali Soomro, a Member of the Sindh Assembly from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has submitted a resolution under Rule 124 of the Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, 2013<\/strong>, condemning in the strongest terms a television broadcast aired by Geo News<\/strong> on the occasion of the 10th of Muharram, alleging that it hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Muslims.<\/p>\n

According to the resolution, any act perceived as disrespectful toward the Prophet Muhammad<\/strong>, the sanctity of Prophethood, the belief in the Finality of Prophethood, or other Islamic sacred values is unacceptable and contrary to the teachings of Islam, as well as the Constitution and laws of Pakistan.<\/p>\n

The resolution further states that although the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) have reportedly suspended the broadcaster’s licence for 15 days, the proposer argues that a temporary suspension is insufficient given the seriousness of the allegations. It calls for strict legal action against those found responsible and recommends that any future violation of a similar nature should result in more severe penalties, including the possible permanent revocation of the relevant media outlet’s licence, subject to applicable law.<\/p>\n

The resolution also reiterates PTI’s stated commitment to the protection of the sanctity of the Prophet, the doctrine of the Finality of Prophethood, and other Islamic sacred values, describing these as matters of faith, constitutional responsibility, and national importance.<\/p>\n
