Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0The Sindh High Court has granted bail to three accused named in the 500-kilogram silver smuggling case, directing each of them to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000.<\/p>\n
The accused granted bail are Tauqeer Ahmed, Zeeshan Shah, and Muhammad Irfan Iqbal. Their bail applications had earlier been rejected by the Special Narcotics Prohibition Court, after which they approached the Sindh High Court.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, the defense counsel argued that customs authorities conducted the operation without obtaining a search warrant. The lawyer maintained that his client had been engaged in the gold and silver business since 1998 and that the recovered silver belonged to several customers and had been kept for processing.<\/p>\n
The prosecution argued that the operation was carried out without a warrant due to an emergency situation. It maintained that customs authorities had credible information indicating that the silver was about to be moved to another location during the night.<\/p>\n
After hearing both sides, the court observed that there were ambiguities in the case and that further and more comprehensive investigation was required. The Sindh High Court subsequently approved the bail applications of the three accused.<\/p>\n
