LAHORE (HRNW)- The Women Development Department’s Working Women Hostels (WWHs) programme continues to expand across Punjab, with 17 hostels operational in 13 districts and several more under construction, according to information provided by Parliamentary Secretary Women Development Department Sadia Taimoor .
\nShe stated that under the Directorate of Women Development Punjab, the initiative offers safe and affordable accommodation to working women who relocate for jobs. Ten hostels were transferred to the department in 2012, with seven more added since then.
\nAccording to the details shared by Sadia Taimor the hostels operate in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal, Vehari, Rahim Yar Khan and Sialkot, with a combined capacity of about 644 residents currently housing 521 women. Facilities include CCTV surveillance, furnished single, double and shared rooms, internet access, and recreational spaces such as TV lounges. The network is supported by 119 sanctioned staff posts, including managers, wardens, security guards and drivers.
\nSaman Rai Secretary Women Development department further informed that several ADP-funded expansion projects are under way. Reconstruction of the Gujranwala hostel began in July 2025, targeted for completion by June 2027. In Vehari, a new hostel building started in 2023 is nearly complete, with handover from the Communication and Works Department in progress. New hostel buildings in Muzaffargarh and Rahim Yar Khan, both due by June 2026, are in their final stages, with flooring work under way.
\nShe added that the continued investments reflect the provincial government’s commitment to expanding safe housing for working women and boosting their workforce participation across Punjab.<\/p>\n
