Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has presented the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) budget of Rs60.451 billion for the financial year 2026\u201327 before the City Council, outlining major allocations for infrastructure, health, municipal services, parks, and development projects.<\/p>\n
According to the proposed budget, total income is estimated at Rs60,451.430 million, while total expenditure stands at Rs60,406.525 million, leaving an estimated surplus of Rs44.905 million. Current receipts are projected at Rs49,103.540 million, capital receipts at Rs2,347.890 million, while Rs9 billion has been allocated for the District Annual Development Programme (ADP).<\/p>\n
The budget estimates Rs37,292.203 million for establishment expenses, Rs4,243.565 million for contingent expenditure, Rs476.830 million for repair and maintenance, Rs8,595.262 million for development projects, Rs798.665 million for capital (revenue component), and Rs9 billion for District ADP expenditures.<\/p>\n
Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the budget allocates Rs18.210 billion for pension funds, miscellaneous expenses, and bailout packages, Rs7.760 billion for medical and health services, Rs6.418 billion for municipal services, and Rs9.272 billion for the Engineering Department.<\/p>\n
Additional allocations include Rs2.232 billion for revenue-related departments such as Land Enforcement, Estate, Katchi Abadi, PD Orangi, and Charged Parking, Rs2.651 billion for Parks and Horticulture, and Rs1.441 billion for Culture, Sports, and Recreation.<\/p>\n
The Mayor also announced Rs760.924 million for Finance and Accounts (MUCT), Rs581.600 million for loan repayments and financial assistance, Rs261.990 million for the Law Department, Rs147.448 million for Enterprise and Investment Promotion, Rs213.392 million for Information Technology, Rs62.250 million for Transport and Communication, and Rs9 billion for the District ADP.<\/p>\n
On the revenue side, KMC expects to receive Rs37.389 billion in government grants, Rs9 billion from the District ADP, Rs5.950 billion from MUCT and advertisements, Rs1.255 billion in KMC arrears, Rs848.127 million from Finance and Accounts, and Rs2.804 billion from the Land Department. Revenue is also expected from departments including Anti-Encroachment, Estate, Slum, PD Orangi, Charged Parking, Engineering, Zoo and Safari Park, Veterinary Services, Parks and Horticulture, Medical and Health Services, and Culture and Sports.<\/p>\n
For development projects, the budget allocates Rs400 million for road construction and improvement, Rs250 million for roads, footpaths, sewerage lines, bridges, and intersections, Rs480 million for district-level infrastructure upgrades, Rs1.2 billion for development works in union committees, Rs100 million for special development projects, and Rs100 million for grants and development schemes benefiting minority communities.<\/p>\n
The budget also includes Rs295.2 million for monthly grants to union councils, Rs500 million for Parks and Horticulture, Rs250 million for solarization of KMC buildings and roads, Rs500 million for solar energy initiatives in all union councils, Rs20 million for Karachi’s urban forest, Rs20 million for Kidney Hill Park, and Rs50 million for the construction of a park near Chowkandi Cemetery.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Rs800 million has been allocated for drain cleaning and desilting, Rs1.25 billion for the renovation of KMC parks and roads, and Rs100 million for unforeseen expenses. KMC plans to spend Rs6.480 billion from its own resources, while the District ADP totals Rs9 billion, with major allocations for infrastructure, roads, flyovers, bridges, buildings, municipal services, healthcare, parks, sports, zoo facilities, and new development schemes.<\/p>\n
