Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0<\/strong>MQM-Pakistan Member of the Sindh Assembly Sajad Somro<\/strong> has strongly criticized the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)<\/strong> over the worsening water crisis in Karachi, alleging severe mismanagement and exploitation of water supply systems.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the issue, Sajad Somro alleged that during the holy month of Muharram, residents of Lyari, Karachi, and other parts of Sindh<\/strong> are facing acute water shortages. He compared the situation with historical events, stating that just as water was reportedly withheld from Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in history, residents today are allegedly being deprived of water under the PPP-led system.<\/p>\n

He further claimed that at Shah Waliullah Pumping Station, Bahar Colony, and Lea Market Pumping Station<\/strong>, individuals allegedly affiliated with the ruling party are involved in the sale of water, while households continue to receive no supply through official pipelines.<\/p>\n

According to him, the issue is not limited to Lyari alone, as similar complaints have emerged from Nazimabad, Orangi Town, Korangi, and several katchi abadis of Karachi<\/strong>, where residents are reportedly forced to purchase water privately. He also claimed that even in upscale areas such as Defence Housing Authority (DHA)<\/strong>, citizens are facing shortages and resorting to purchasing water.<\/p>\n

He questioned the governance situation, stating that it is unacceptable that both wealthy and poor citizens are compelled to buy water in a city that is already facing severe infrastructure challenges.<\/p>\n

Sajad Somro further alleged that in some areas, PPP representatives pressure local systems to restore water supply in their constituencies, while areas represented by opposition lawmakers face deliberate restrictions in water distribution. He termed the situation \u201cdeeply concerning\u201d and called for immediate corrective measures.<\/p>\n

At the time of publication, no official response from the Pakistan Peoples Party or relevant water authorities had been issued regarding these allegations.<\/p>\n
