Washington (HRNW)-\u00a0US President Donald Trump has warned that if the ongoing negotiations with Iran fail to reach a final agreement, the United States may consider imposing a toll (fee) on the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
President Trump said in a statement on his social media platform Truth Social that no toll will be imposed on the Strait of Hormuz for the time being, but if the agreement with Iran is not completed, the US reserves the right to charge a fee for its services on this strategically important waterway.<\/p>\n
Trump claimed that the United States has been playing the role of a \u201cprotector\u201d or \u201cguardian angel\u201d for Middle Eastern countries for decades and has borne significant costs for maintaining peace and security in the region.<\/p>\n
He said that if the agreement fails, the US may consider imposing tariffs or tolls on maritime trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz to compensate for past, present and future expenditures.<\/p>\n
