ISLAMABAD (HRNW)-\u00a0The federal government has decided to make Pakistan\u2019s passport system completely online and has finalized initial preparations for introducing a home delivery service for passports both within the country and abroad.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken during a special meeting held at the Directorate General of Passports and Immigration Headquarters under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where several key reforms aimed at modernizing passport services were reviewed and approved in principle.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, it was decided to gradually shift the entire passport issuance system to e-passports, a move officials believe will significantly reduce the chances of fraud, forgery, and document tampering.<\/p>\n
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the adoption of modern technology would enhance transparency, improve efficiency, and provide better services to citizens.<\/p>\n
The meeting also decided that citizens opting for premium passport services will be required to pay fees based on the actual cost of providing those services.<\/p>\n
Officials informed the meeting that preliminary work for a passport home delivery system has already been completed. The service will allow citizens to receive passports at their homes, both in Pakistan and overseas, and is expected to be launched in the near future.<\/p>\n
Another major decision taken during the meeting was the implementation of a cashless payment system in passport offices across the country from July 1, aimed at improving transparency and streamlining transactions.<\/p>\n
To further simplify the application process, online passport applications will be transferred to the PakID platform, enabling citizens to access passport-related services more conveniently through digital channels.<\/p>\n
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also directed officials to finalize the proposed policy regarding business passports in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) at the earliest opportunity.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Director General Passports and Immigration Muhammad Ali Randhawa provided a detailed briefing on ongoing reforms, future projects, and measures designed to modernize passport and immigration services across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
