London (HRNW)-\u00a0A British court has upheld the government’s decision to designate the pro-Palestinian activist group Palestine Action as a banned organization under terrorism laws, while police arrested several supporters of the group during protests held across the country.<\/p>\n
According to foreign media reports, the UK Court of Appeal ruled on Monday that the government’s decision to ban Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000 was legally justified. The ruling overturned an earlier lower court decision that had found the ban unlawful and disproportionate.<\/p>\n
Following the court’s decision, supporters of Palestine Action staged demonstrations in various parts of Britain. Police detained several protesters, stating that the arrests were made in accordance with public order regulations and applicable laws.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Hamas strongly criticized the court’s ruling, describing it as a decision taken under political pressure. In a statement, the organization claimed that the ban was intended to silence voices supporting Palestinian rights and limit protests against ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza.<\/p>\n
Hamas further argued that the prohibition of Palestine Action was contrary to human rights and freedom of expression, adding that suppressing advocacy for Palestinians would not resolve the conflict but could contribute to further tensions.<\/p>\n
The British government, however, maintains that the ban was imposed under the Terrorism Act 2000 due to concerns that some of the group’s activities could pose risks to national security and public safety. Several human rights organizations have criticized the move, arguing that it raises concerns regarding civil liberties and the right to protest.<\/p>\n
