Peshawar (HRNW)-\u00a0A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court seeking a ban on TikTok, alleging that obscene content on the platform is causing social unrest. A bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Farah Jamshed heard the case, during which the petitioner\u2019s counsel argued that inappropriate videos uploaded on TikTok are negatively impacting society.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed the court that a report regarding the firewall had been submitted. The PTA’s counsel explained that TikTok\u2019s algorithm promotes similar content based on a user\u2019s viewing habits, making selective content blocking a difficult task. He added that several accounts have already been blocked following complaints.<\/p>\n
Justice Ijaz Anwar remarked that if political content can be blocked quickly, then objectionable content should also be controllable. The court was informed that the newly established Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority is now responsible for such matters. Accepting the petitioner\u2019s request, the court sought a report from the authority and adjourned further proceedings.<\/p>\n
