Islamabad (HRNW) \u2013 The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has successfully secured its full requested development budget, with the government maintaining a strong focus on the growth of Pakistan\u2019s digital economy and technology sector.<\/p>\n
Speaking to senior journalists in Islamabad, Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that no reductions had been made to the ministry\u2019s development budget despite budget constraints faced by several other government departments.<\/p>\n
She stated that the IT sector remains a top priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Division, reflecting the government’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and technological development.<\/p>\n
According to Shaza Fatima, the ministry\u2019s development budget demand of approximately Rs 22 billion is expected to be approved in full. She added that the total development allocation, including long-term projects, amounts to nearly Rs 76 billion.<\/p>\n
The minister said that significant funds have been earmarked for artificial intelligence (AI) training programs, support for technology start-ups and initiatives aimed at enhancing digital skills among the youth.<\/p>\n
She further explained that efforts are underway to improve internet access and connectivity in rural and underserved areas through the Universal Service Fund (USF). Expanding digital connectivity in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan has also been identified as a priority.<\/p>\n
According to the minister, digital infrastructure is being strengthened to support climate change initiatives and early warning systems, enabling authorities to provide timely information during emergencies and natural disasters.<\/p>\n
Shaza Fatima also highlighted measures being taken to improve Pakistan\u2019s global technology profile and said that implementation of the country\u2019s AI policy is progressing rapidly.<\/p>\n
She revealed that approximately 900,000 individuals have received digital skills training during the current year, while baseline assessments of university students have also been completed as part of broader technology education initiatives.<\/p>\n
The minister emphasized that substantial progress is being made under the Digital Pakistan vision and reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping young people with modern technological skills to support economic growth and innovation.<\/p>\n
