New York (HRNW) \u2013 Pakistan has called for an immediate ceasefire, an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, and the resumption of negotiations at the United Nations, stressing that civilians must never be targeted in armed conflicts.<\/p>\n
According to an APP report, Pakistan\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, addressed an emergency session of the UN Security Council and expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in fighting and the worsening humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n
The Security Council meeting was convened following an attack on a college hostel in the Russian-controlled region of Luhansk, where several civilians, including children, were reportedly killed and many others injured.<\/p>\n
During the briefing, Adam Wosornow, Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), described the attack as a clear violation of international humanitarian law and emphasized that the protection of civilians must be ensured under all circumstances.<\/p>\n
Pakistan\u2019s representative stated that military solutions cannot bring lasting peace and that only a complete ceasefire, meaningful negotiations, and strong political will can resolve the conflict.<\/p>\n
He added that Pakistan has consistently supported diplomacy and dialogue since the beginning of the war and stressed that any durable peace must be based on the UN Charter and the legitimate security concerns of all parties involved.<\/p>\n
