Tehran (HRNW) \u2013 Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have claimed that the passage of 26 ships through the Strait of Hormuz during the past 24 hours was carried out under their supervision and permission.<\/p>\n
According to the Iranian news agency, the IRGC stated that all ships passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz are required to contact and obtain approval from the Iranian Navy before entering the controlled waters.<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s Gulf Strait Authority has also issued a new maritime map declaring several parts of the Strait of Hormuz as \u201ccontrolled maritime zones.\u201d Under the new directives, ships will not be allowed to pass through these areas without Iranian authorization.<\/p>\n
Reports said the controlled zone stretches from Iran\u2019s Mount Mubarak region to the south of Fujairah and from Qeshm Island to Umm Al Quwain.<\/p>\n
The developments come after Iran imposed restrictions on maritime movement in the Strait of Hormuz following rising tensions with the United States and Israel. In response, the United States reportedly imposed strict restrictions on Iranian ports.<\/p>\n
Experts say nearly 20 percent of the world\u2019s energy exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, making the global oil and energy market highly sensitive to any disruption or restrictions in the region.<\/p>\n
