Geneva (HRNW)- An important meeting was held between Pakistan\u2019s Federal Minister for Health and Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly, focusing on improving vaccination coverage in Pakistan, strengthening partnerships, and future health strategies.<\/p>\n
The Federal Minister for Health appreciated Dr. Sania Nishtar\u2019s services and thanked Gavi for its continued support in promoting vaccination programs in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Health Minister Mustafa Kamal stated that protecting children\u2019s health and expanding immunization coverage remain top priorities of the Government of Pakistan. He added that the National Vaccine Policy has been approved and practical steps are being taken for its implementation.<\/p>\n
He further said that Pakistan aims to learn from countries such as Indonesia, China, and Saudi Arabia in promoting local vaccine production, while also seeking technical guidance and consultation from Gavi.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the importance of public awareness, Mustafa Kamal said that initial resistance to HPV vaccination was due to weak media campaigns, but public confidence improved significantly after awareness efforts, including his personal example of vaccinating his daughter, leading to acceptance rising to 80%.<\/p>\n
The minister added that Pakistan has fulfilled its co-financing commitments with Gavi, describing it as a positive step toward sustainability and long-term cooperation. He also requested support for a pilot project involving the hexavalent vaccine in remote regions.<\/p>\n
He noted that a decision regarding the integration of the polio program with the broader immunization system will be made by mid-2027, with key appointments already completed.<\/p>\n
Dr. Sania Nishtar reaffirmed that Pakistan remains a priority country for Gavi and said the organization will continue to support efforts to increase vaccination coverage and reduce community resistance, stressing the need for transparency, strong media engagement, and support in hard-to-reach areas.<\/p>\n
