Lahore (HRNW)-\u00a0Punjab\u2019s free public transport initiative has set a new ridership record, with nearly 40 million passengers benefiting from complimentary travel services between April 4 and May 4, according to official figures. The program covered a wide range of transport services, including the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo buses, and electric buses, providing relief to commuters across different cities and communities.<\/p>\n
Reports show that more than 10 million passengers used the Orange Line Metro Train, while approximately 6.45 million traveled on the Lahore Metro Bus Service, and over 4.5 million used Speedo buses during the month. In addition, more than 600,000 passengers benefited from green electric buses in Lahore, around 925,000 used green electric buses in Rawalpindi, and over 3.7 million passengers traveled on the Pakistan Metro Bus Service. The Multan Metro Bus System served more than 3.5 million passengers, while feeder routes carried approximately 7.5 million travelers. More than 9 million passengers also used electric buses operating in various districts under the Punjab Transport Company.<\/p>\n
Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan welcomed the success of the initiative, saying the government remained committed to easing travel for citizens and ensuring quality transport services. He noted that despite exceptionally high demand, the free travel program was operated smoothly and benefited workers, employees, students, senior citizens, women, and people from all walks of life. Officials also stated that expansion plans are underway to introduce hundreds of additional electric buses across Punjab\u2019s districts to further improve public transportation and accessibility.<\/p>\n
