Karachi (HRNW)-\u00a0Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Saqib Sadaqat has stated that trade volume between Pakistan and Bangladesh has increased by 20 percent in the recent period, reaching approximately one billion dollars. Speaking at a discussion session organized by the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations, he highlighted that bilateral trade prospects have improved significantly due to the establishment of direct flight and shipping links. He added that after Karachi, direct flights are also planned from Lahore to Dhaka, further strengthening connectivity between the two countries. The Deputy High Commissioner also noted that shipping routes between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be expanded, calling this the first visit of Bangladeshi government officials to Pakistan a milestone in enhancing both government-to-government and people-to-people relations. He expressed optimism that trade volumes will continue to grow in the coming years and also appreciated Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic efforts in promoting peace at the international level.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event, Patron-in-Chief of the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations Ikram Sehgal said that Pakistan and Bangladesh, though two countries, share deep historical and cultural ties. He emphasized the immense potential of the youth in both nations and called for removing trade barriers, suggesting that abolishing import duty on Bangladeshi tea could significantly reduce prices in Pakistan. He also stated that introducing a visa-on-arrival facility between the two countries would help bring their people closer. Ikram Sehgal further proposed stronger regional cooperation, including a joint defense understanding, stating that aggression against one country should be considered aggression against the other.<\/p>\n
