Lahore (HRNW)-\u00a0Punjab has taken a major step toward modernizing its urban infrastructure by launching the local production of advanced 100-year lifespan sewage pipes using modern technology imported from China. The initiative is being seen as a significant development in upgrading the province\u2019s sewage and drainage system with durable and cost-effective solutions.<\/p>\n
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique inaugurated the modern HDPE lining pipe factory at a ceremony attended by Special Secretary Local Government Department Shahid Zaman Luck, Chairman PMDFC Imad Iftikhar Malik, Managing Director PMDFC Syed Zahid Aziz, and senior WASA officials. This technological advancement was made possible through the technical support of PMDFC in collaboration with the World Bank team, enabling the start of local manufacturing of high-quality sewage pipes in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
As part of the project, engineers led by World Bank Counterpart Team Lead Carlo Alberto also visited the Singapore Water Center for technical exposure, while Chinese engineers supervised the transfer of modern pipe manufacturing technology to Pakistan. The new system increases the lifespan of sewerage pipes from 25 years to 100 years, a breakthrough expected to significantly reduce maintenance costs and improve long-term urban planning.<\/p>\n
Officials also announced plans to establish more factories across the province to ensure the low-cost supply of modern pipes for sewerage projects, paving the way for major improvements in Punjab\u2019s municipal infrastructure and sanitation network.<\/p>\n
