Karachi (HRNW)<\/a>–<\/strong> The Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, and the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Faculty of Science of the University of Karachi, and Transformation International Society, a leading non-profit organization and a multi-disciplinary mental health setup in the country, inked the memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n

The KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and the Founder of TIS Dr Imran Yousuf signed the MoU at the VC Secretariat on Wednesday. Dr Imran, who is also the honorary Consul General of the Philippines, briefed the audience that the TIS is working on various aspects, particularly on the mental health of human beings and on the betterment of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n

He shared that globally there is a huge shortage of human resources for the treatment and looking of the PWDs. He mentioned that the TIS is willing to fulfill this gap as much as possible and train individuals who can perform sound in the sector.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the TIS provides neurologists, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, rTMS-technology are available under one roof. He expressed that the TIS is willing to offer internships to the students of BS degree program in TIS clinical setup, psychological assessment, arrangement of practical knowledge and application of theoretical on-hand training on various tools and technology.<\/p>\n

Dr Imran said that all internships will be paid so that students can easily focus on their training and do not worry about their logistics and other needs. He added that qualified students will be offered a spot job opportunity.<\/p>\n

The KU\u2019s Dean of the Faculty of Education Professor Dr Nasir Sulman appreciated that students will be able to get practical knowledge during studies. He said that TIS will be a good platform to learn and make their name in the local and international market.<\/p>\n

The KU\u2019s Chairperson of Department of HEPSS Professor Dr Basit Ansari mentioned that hopefully both faculty members and students will get mutual benefits by this venture as it will not only provide on-hand training but also help in new networking for them.<\/p>\n

The KU\u2019s Director Evening Program Professor Dr Syed Shabib ul Hassan said that he believes that this MoU is the need of the hour as not only Pakistan but the whole world need mental healthcare experts and qualified staff to look after PWDs.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi such partnership will play an important role in reducing the gap between problem solving capacity of field experts as a large number of students will benefit from this internship program and many will surely get jobs in the end.<\/p>\n

He added that Pakistan needs a lot of special educationists, speech therapists, and experts in mental healthcare to serve society. He observed that governments have failed in providing facilities to PWDs and on the other hand, academia and industry are playing a vital role in providing betterment to PWDs.<\/p>\n

The Principal of Transformation Children Rehab Centre Ainul Hayat, Assistant Medical Director of TIS Amima Salam, HPESS faculty, KU\u2019s Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Dr Syeda Hoor ul Ain and others were present on this occasion.<\/p>\n
