Islamabad (HRNW)- The Prime Minister has constituted a special committee to reform the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), with the first meeting held under the chairmanship of Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening the SECP\u2019s enforcement regime and making it more active and effective. SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Sidhu informed the committee that more than 2,000 SECP-related cases are currently pending, highlighting the urgent need for reforms to ensure their prompt resolution in courts.<\/p>\n
The Law Minister stated that necessary legislation will be introduced to empower the SECP, while Dr. Sidhu emphasized the need to grant the commission authority to recover fines directly. Proposals were also discussed for the establishment of special tribunals for SECP-related cases.<\/p>\n
In addition, the SECP chairman shared that the regulatory framework is being digitalized to prevent corporate fraud and improve transparency. The Law Minister directed the SECP to present a comprehensive reform plan and complete data on pending cases in the next meeting.<\/p>\n
