KARACHI (HRNW)<\/strong>: (Press Release, March 24) Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Vice President Rizwan Niazi on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the forecast of heavy rains on coming days, warning that Karachi once again faces the risk of urban flooding due to what he termed the incompetence and mismanagement of the Sindh government and the city administration.<\/p>\n

He said that, as in previous years, no effective arrangements for drainage had been made ahead of the rains. Referring to recent showers, he noted that life in the city had already been paralysed, yet no concrete steps were visible regarding the cleaning of stormwater drains, improvement of the sewerage system, or timely disposal of rainwater.<\/p>\n

Rizwan Niazi added that in past spells of rainfall, several areas of Karachi remained submerged for days. He pointed out that rainwater from pre-Eid showers was still accumulated in various localities and had yet to be drained, causing damage to citizens\u2019 property and severely disrupting daily life. Despite this, he said, the Sindh government and the city administration had failed to learn any lessons.<\/p>\n

Criticising the Karachi mayor, he said that despite tall claims, no serious efforts had been made to improve the city\u2019s infrastructure. \u201cProblems cannot be resolved through statements alone; practical measures are needed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that the Karimabad underpass, constructed at a cost of Rs4 billion, was damaged after just one spell of rain, and called for an immediate investigation into the alleged substandard construction.<\/p>\n

The PTI leader demanded that all major and minor drains be cleaned without delay, the drainage system be activated on an emergency basis, and special teams be deployed in low-lying areas. He further urged authorities to keep rescue agencies on high alert to ensure the safety of citizens.<\/p>\n
