Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to closely monitor the demand and supply of food items in the country in view of the changing regional situation. The directive came during a high-level review meeting held in Islamabad to assess Pakistan\u2019s food reserves and the potential export of surplus commodities.<\/p>\n
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current reserves and production of food items, stating that Pakistan currently has sufficient supplies and there is no shortage of essential commodities.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that disruptions in global supply chains have increased opportunities for Pakistan to export agricultural products to regional markets, particularly to Gulf countries. He stressed that while exploring these opportunities, Pakistan\u2019s domestic food requirements must remain fully protected.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive action plan to export surplus food items to friendly Gulf nations without affecting the country\u2019s own needs. He also emphasized that high quality standards must be maintained when exporting food products to these brotherly countries.<\/p>\n
He further instructed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to take necessary steps to facilitate the export of food items through sea routes. During the meeting, officials highlighted that Pakistan\u2019s agriculture sector, including agricultural commodities, meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood, has significant export potential.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister ordered the formation of a special committee to review the situation on a daily basis and directed ambassadors and trade officers posted in Gulf countries to remain active in promoting exports.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, along with senior officials, provincial chief secretaries, and representatives of relevant private sector associations.<\/p>\n
