LAHORE: (HRNW)\u00a0<\/b>In a landmark move to curb weapon display and misuse, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially approved “The Punjab Surrender Illicit Arms Act 2026.”<\/b> This is the first time the province has prepared such a comprehensive legislative framework specifically designed to eliminate illegal weaponry and regulate the possession of even licensed arms. Under this new act, the responsibility for overseeing the surrender and elimination of illicit weapons has been formally handed over to the Counter-Crime Department (CCD)<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The act introduces stringent regulations, including a mandatory requirement for citizens to obtain a special permit even for hanging antique weapons as home decor. Once the act is enforced, all individuals in possession of illegal firearms will be required to surrender them to the CCD within a designated timeframe. Furthermore, even licensed weapon holders will now be legally obligated to provide a “reasonable justification” for carrying or possessing their arms. To ensure compliance, the act proposes severe penalties and strict sentencing for those who fail to surrender illegal weapons within the grace period.<\/p>\n
