Islamabad (HRNW)-\u00a0The Supreme Court of Pakistan heard a bail application of an accused who allegedly took money from a citizen by promising to send him abroad.<\/p>\n
A two-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar heard the case, during which the court also had an interesting exchange with the affected citizen.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, Justice Hashim Kakar asked how much money the accused had taken, to which the plaintiff\u2019s lawyer replied that the accused had received Rs1.75 million from the citizen. When the judge asked the citizen which country he intended to travel to, the citizen said he had paid the money to go to Greece.<\/p>\n
Justice Hashim Kakar remarked that going to Greece would have left him struggling, advising the young man that it would be better to work hard in his own country, and noting that many people lose their lives while trying to travel abroad by boats.<\/p>\n
The court asked whether the accused had actually sent the citizen abroad after taking the money. The plaintiff\u2019s lawyer replied that neither was the citizen sent abroad nor was the money returned. He added that the checks issued by the accused had also bounced, and separate cases regarding the bounced checks have already been registered.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, the accused\u2019s lawyer requested time to prepare, stating that this was his first case before the Supreme Court. In response, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim remarked that the court will decide the matter before Eid, adding that if bail is to be granted it will be granted, otherwise it will not.<\/p>\n
The court later adjourned the hearing until next Monday.<\/p>\n
