Speaking in the aftermath of a ballistic missile interception involving Turkey, Rutte described the attempted strike as a “serious and absolutely condemnable” event that demonstrates why the alliance must remain at its highest state of readiness. While he clarified that Article 5<\/b>\u2014the alliance\u2019s mutual defense clause\u2014is not currently being invoked, he emphasized that the successful neutralization of the threat by NATO air defenses proves the effectiveness of their “360-degree” territorial protection.
