Islamabad (HRNW)- Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Younis Khan Nol has sent a formal legal notice to mobile companies and relevant regulatory bodies on the issue of alleged unjustified deductions of billions of rupees from mobile phone users.<\/p>\n
The legal notice has been sent to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the Ministry of Information Technology and the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of all mobile companies operating in the country.<\/p>\n
According to the text of the notice, mobile companies have embezzled billions of rupees from consumers through auto-activated services and so-called value-added services. The legal notice claims that PTA itself has admitted to illegal deductions from mobile balances and poor services.<\/p>\n
It has been further stated that these illegal deductions made by mobile companies from the balances of consumers fall under the category of punishable offenses under the PECA Act.<\/p>\n
The legal notice demands that all the money looted from the customers be returned within seven (7) days, while a transparent and independent audit of all value-added services activated in the last three years be conducted.<\/p>\n
The notice warns that if the money is not returned to the customers within the stipulated period, a constitutional petition will be filed in the High Court, a claim for damages of Rs 300 million will also be made against the mobile companies, while criminal action will also be taken against the company management involved in the deductions in the relevant forums.<\/p>\n
According to legal experts, this move could prove to be a significant development for mobile users across the country and its effects could be far-reaching on the telecom industry.<\/p>\n
