KARACHI (HRNW):<\/b> Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, during a press conference on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, detailed several “people-friendly” decisions approved by the Sindh Cabinet aimed at achieving provincial self-reliance. The Minister began by condemning the recent tragic incident in Kohat, paying tribute to the security forces for their sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorism. A major highlight of the session was the establishment of the Sindh Electric Regulatory Authority (SEPRA), a move intended to make the province energy-independent by allowing it to regulate its own power sector and tariffs.<\/p>\n

Minister Memon emphasized that the Sindh government is taking practical steps to stabilize the economy, including an initiative to register and support women farmers across the province to empower the agricultural workforce. To boost commercial activity, the government has pledged to provide all necessary online facilities to the business community within a ten-day period. Furthermore, he highlighted massive infrastructure investments, such as the $1 billion Thar coal project and the construction of a new railway line to Thar, aimed at strengthening the national energy grid with affordable electricity.<\/p>\n

Addressing urban issues, the Minister noted that the Bhutto Highway is nearing completion, with a formal inauguration expected in early April. He also defended Karachi\u2019s role as the country\u2019s economic backbone, pointing out that provincial hospitals provide free, high-quality care to thousands of patients from across Pakistan, including specialized procedures like liver transplants. On the security front, Memon reported significant progress in the Katcha areas, stating that Sindh Police have killed 28 dacoits and secured the surrender of 187 others in the last two months. Additionally, the government is procuring advanced drones and snorkels to modernize the city’s fire and rescue services.<\/p>\n
