Critics and opposition leaders, including members of the PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami, have pointed out that the estimated cost of PKR 11.7 billion (approximately $42 million)<\/b> could have been utilized to address the province’s dire health and education crises. Public discourse has highlighted that this amount alone could have funded the establishment of nearly 500 basic health units<\/b> or clinics in neglected rural areas, or facilitated the construction of over 1,000 primary schools<\/b> or 6,000 classrooms in regions currently suffering from a severe shortage of educational infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The controversy is further fueled by the timing of the purchase, as a large portion of the population struggles with record inflation, unemployment, and a surge in child malnutrition. Opposition figures have drawn sharp comparisons between the cost of this single 19-seater VIP jet and the recent privatization of the national carrier, PIA, which was reportedly sold for roughly the same amount (Rs 10 billion<\/b>). While the provincial administration initially defended the move by claiming the jet is part of a newly proposed “Air Punjab” airline project, aviation experts have dismissed the feasibility of using a high-end executive business jet for commercial airline operations, calling the justification “economically unviable.”<\/p>\n
