Karachi (HRNW) — The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court conducted a hearing on applications challenging the freezing of bank accounts belonging to former President Dr. Arif Alvi and his family.

During the previous hearing, statements of former President’s son Awab Alvi and his wife had been recorded. The petitioner’s lawyer, Barrister Ali Tahir, requested that at least the accounts of Awab Alvi and his wife be restored after recording their statements.
The court inquired from the government counsel about the investigating officer’s presence, to which it was informed that the officer is in Islamabad and could not appear due to health reasons.
When asked about the allegations against the petitioners, the petitioner’s lawyer stated that they face charges of religiously offensive statements, which led to the freezing of their accounts.
The petitioner’s lawyer further requested the court to allow PKR 1 million for daily expenses.
The court directed the investigating officer to appear in the next hearing with the recorded statements and adjourned the hearing to December 19.
