Gul Plaza Tragedy: Another Body Identified Through DNA, Death Toll Rises to 73

Karachi (HRNW)- One more body has been identified through DNA testing in the tragic Gul Plaza incident, bringing the total number of identified victims to 23, while the overall death toll has now reached 73.

According to HRNW News, the process of recovering human remains from the debris at Gul Plaza is still ongoing. CPLC Identification Project In-Charge Aamir Hassan confirmed that the newly identified victim is Abdul Haseeb. So far, 16 bodies have been identified through DNA, while others were identified through physical recognition.

Aamir Hassan further stated that the remains of two more individuals were recovered during the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday, indicating that search efforts are still underway.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers for four members of the same family who lost their lives in the tragedy were offered at Delhi Colony Eidgah Ground, attended by relatives and a large number of citizens. MQM leaders including Farooq Sattar, Munam Zafar and Najmi Alam were also present. According to Edhi officials, the deceased included two sisters and a brother, while two members of the same family are still missing. The affected family had gone to Gul Plaza for shopping.

In another development, funeral prayers of Muhammad Sheith, who also lost his life in the incident, were offered at Garden Kashti Wali Mosque, led by his father. He was later laid to rest in the local cemetery in Garden area.

A technical and forensic team from Lahore has arrived in Karachi to investigate the incident. The team, in coordination with police and district administration, inspected various sections of the building. The Urban Search Operation Team has marked several dangerous locations with “H” signs, indicating high risk of structural collapse.

Rescue and search operations are still ongoing at the site as authorities continue efforts to recover remaining victims and ensure public safety.
