Karachi (HRNW) — Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori has said that Maulana Bashir Farooqi suggested relocating the Gul Plaza traders to the Saddar Parking Plaza. The governor announced that he will write a letter to the Mayor of Karachi to facilitate this relocation. He added that traders could temporarily resume their businesses at the parking plaza until a permanent solution is found.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Governor Tessori said he was informed that the situation outside Gul Plaza was tense and it might be risky to visit, but he insisted, saying, “This is the time to stand with them, not to stay away.” He added that a prayer service was held at the Governor House for the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy.
Governor Tessori thanked the Pakistan Navy for sending four snorkels within 20 minutes, and also appreciated the Chairman of KPT (Karachi Port Trust) for the quick response. He emphasized that it was important to examine the role of the Gul Plaza management over the years, and to discuss the safety standards of all commercial plazas across the city.
He added, “We have gone too far in the blame game culture; it’s time to focus on responsibility and safety.”
