Global Push for UN Convention on Older Persons’ Rights

Global (HRNW)- Communities, rights advocates, and organizations worldwide are mobilizing support for a new United Nations Convention on the Rights of Older Persons. The initiative coincides with the first meeting of an Intergovernmental Working Group this month, which will begin drafting the treaty text with the goal of strengthening legal protections against ageism and ensuring older persons’ dignity, equality, and participation in society. The movement enjoys backing from several governments, including Australia, and marks a key moment in expanding the UN human rights framework to cover age-related rights comprehensively.
