Former US Ambassador Warns Trump May Target Iran’s Supreme Leader, Regional Tensions Escalate

Washington (HRNW)- Former US Ambassador to Israel Don Shapiro has claimed that US President Donald Trump may try to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the coming weeks.

According to an Israeli news agency, in an interview, Don Shapiro said that given President Trump’s policies and recent statements, there is a possibility that he will try to target Iran’s top leadership. He said that Ayatollah Khamenei is currently 86 years old and is also ill, so Iran needs a new leadership.

This statement by the former US ambassador has come at a time when Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has accused the US president of being directly involved in the violence, protests and killings in Iran.

Don Shapiro added that tensions between the US and Iran have entered a critical phase and the coming days could prove to be very important for the region.

It should be noted that Don Shapiro served as the US ambassador to Israel during the presidency of former US President Barack Obama.
