ECP Issues Final Warning: Lawmakers Face Suspension Over Asset Disclosure

Islamabad, Pakistan (HRNW)- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a final directive to members of the Senate, National Assembly, and Provincial Assemblies who have yet to submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities. Under Section 137 of the Elections Act, lawmakers are legally required to file these details on the prescribed Form B.

The ECP has set a strict deadline of January 15, 2026 (today). According to the official notification, any member failing to comply will face immediate suspension of membership effective from January 16, 2026. A suspended member is barred from attending sessions, participating in legislation, or exercising any parliamentary privileges until the requirements are met.

To facilitate last-minute filings, the Political Finance Wing at the Kohsar Block will remain open until midnight tonight. This annual exercise is a cornerstone of political accountability in Pakistan, aimed at ensuring transparency regarding the wealth and financial interests of elected representatives.
