Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW)- In the case concerning the attack on Advocate Khawaja Shams‑us‑Slam, the court has removed the anti-terrorism charges and ordered that the case be transferred to the South Sessions Court for trial.
The request to remove the anti-terrorism provisions was filed by the accused, Imran Khan Afridi, who argued that the incident was a personal dispute, not an act of terrorism. Defense counsel Saif Afridi stated that the conflict between the victim and the accused had been ongoing since 2021.
Advocate Khawaja Shams‑us‑Slam had originally filed a case against the accused at Boat Basin Police Station. The complainant’s lawyer, Khalid Iqbal, did not oppose the transfer of the case to the Sessions Court.
The accused, Imran Khan Afridi, was previously charged under murder, attempted murder, causing injury, anti-terrorism, and the Lawyer Protection Act. The attack occurred on November 14, 2024, leaving Khawaja Shams‑us‑Slam seriously injured, and the case was initially registered by his junior, Khalid Iqbal.
