Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — The court held a hearing on multiple petitions challenging the issuance of e-challans for traffic violations in Karachi. During the proceedings, transport department lawyer, Yar Muhammad Advocate, appeared on behalf of the department.
The lawyer informed the court that a written response had already been submitted, asserting that the e-challan system directly relates to public safety and is therefore not subject to legal challenge. He further emphasized that since the implementation of e-challans, traffic accidents have reportedly decreased by 40 percent, demonstrating the system’s effectiveness.
The court directed the transport department to provide copies of its response to the petitioners’ lawyers and requested written replies from all other parties by 18 February. The matter will be further heard on the scheduled date.
