Karachi (HRNW)- A meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi considered the repair and rehabilitation measures to rectify the current poor condition of various highways and internal roads of the city and a comprehensive plan to improve the traffic management system.
It was informed in the meeting that PC-1s of most of the projects have been prepared, and those whose PC-1s are pending will be prepared in the next two days. Commissioner Karachi directed that all the concerned agencies complete the projects with mutual communication and coordination so that there is no duplication in the projects.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Special Secretary Local Government, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, Project Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Project KWSSIP Ayesha Hameed, Project Director Karachi Mobility Project Zameer Abbasi, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority, Baldia-e-Uzma, KDA, senior officers of Red Line and Yellow Line and Deputy Commissioners.
The meeting was informed that the Municipal Corporations are working on repair and improvement projects of 106 major highways and 453 internal roads of the town municipal corporations. 138 roads are planned to be repaired in the East District, 50 in the Central District, 15 in the South District, 93 in Korangi, 193 in Malir and 27 in Kemari District.
Regarding traffic management, it was decided in the meeting that 45 old traffic signals will be upgraded while 31 new traffic signals will be installed. Similarly, the diversion work on University Road opposite Urdu College will be completed soon, for which patchwork will be done on two points seven kilometers of the road.
Moreover, plans have also been prepared to beautify II Chandrigarh Road and improve the condition of Maripur Road so that better roads and facilities can be provided to the citizens.
