Larkana (HRNW): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah visited Goth Bhawal Jat where he met flood-affected families and reviewed houses constructed under the People’s Housing Project. During his interaction with affected women, he stated that the Sindh government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is taking major steps to rehabilitate flood victims across the province.
The Chief Minister said that during the 2022 floods and earlier disasters, a large number of mud houses were destroyed. He added that on the directive of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh government set a target of constructing approximately 2 million houses, with the support of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and the federal government.
He informed that the construction cost of each house is around Rs 300,000, with a total estimated cost of USD 2 billion. The World Bank has already provided USD 500 million as the first tranche for the project. CM Sindh said that more than 1 million houses have been completed, while around 1.5 million homes are currently under construction and are expected to be completed within this year.
Syed Murad Ali Shah praised flood victims—especially women—for becoming empowered and economically active, noting that many are now running their own small businesses, which he described as a positive and encouraging development.
The Chief Minister also thanked World Bank President Ajay Banga and his spouse for visiting Larkana to review the construction work. Expressing gratitude to all relevant institutions and international partners, he said the project reflects the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh government’s practical efforts to provide flood victims with new homes and an improved quality of life.
